Week 8
On the eighth week, Mr. Hafiz wanted us to start drawing on Photoshop using a wacom tablet for our Graphic Novel project, where we were asked to pick a story from the list of stories that he gave and start working on our narrative structures, mind maps, and mood boards. Mr. Hafiz showed us tutorials on how to make our own brush and we were asked to draw using the stippling technique. Since some of us might find it easier to draw on paper, Mr. Hafiz told us that we are allowed to draw on paper, then color it afterwards.

We are also allowed to look for pictures online for our stippling exercise. So I searched for amineko, which are cats that are crocheted by hand.

As you can see from my work, I actually created a brush where it's the head of an amineko and then I used it for my stippling exercise. Afterwards, I tried to color on of my sketch that I photographed and import it in Photoshop.

I actually kind of liked how it turned out so I might be using this technique in the future. As for the graphic novel, I chose the story titled The Spectacles by Edgar Allan Poe where I started to work on the mind maps and mood boards. I researched for some of the clothing, houses, and carriages during the late 1800s as the story was written during that period of time.

Week 9
On week nine, Mr. Hafiz wanted to see our progression on our graphic novel. While giving each of us feedbacks, we were given an exercise to see how well we understand transitions. We were given a short comic story from the book
Understanding Comic by Scott McCloud and we were asked to find the 5 transitions from the story. While doing the exercise, I kind of realize that I haven't fully understand the kinds of transitions.
 |
| Fig. 2.a Exercise on transitions |
When it's my turn to present my progress, Mr. Hafiz told me that I'm still kind of undecided on what I wanted to do. I also told Mr. Hafiz that I'm still kind of confused on the types of transition, so Mr. Hafiz explained to me further providing more examples. Mr. Hafiz then told me to also find an art style that I wanted to use as a reference as my mood boards don't really show what kind of art I wanted to do. Here are some of my sketches.

So I searched for some drawing and sketches online and above are the art style that I really wanted to do for this graphic novel. I really like how the drawings all look kind of like sketches but there's a clear outline to indicate the shape of the character which is what I'm aiming for but I still need more practices as I drew some scenes for my novel. I also wanted to rework my mind maps, etc. as I'm not very satisfied with it.
On the Thursday of this week, I presented some of my sketches to Mr. Hafiz, and I was told that my sketches were good and that I seem to draw better digitally.

When Mr. Hafiz saw my sketch of the scene where the three boys sing together, Mr. Hafiz told me that having the same alignment is not good. SO he wanted me to change the height of the three boys so there will be a little variety instead of having the same height, which is also kind of weird. So after class I decided to start drawing digitally and change the alignment of the three boys digitally.
I drew the some of the backgrounds separately as well as some parts of the scene.

Week 10
By this week, we were required to have out graphic novel animated, where Mr. Hafiz will assess our work and we are to start choosing a short story for our final project which is a Webcomic/Tunnel Book. Mr. Hafiz briefed us about our final project.
These are the scenes that I chose to animate.
