Project 2: Motion Poster
Week 12
On week 12, Mr. Jeff said that this week will be the week where we can still ask question if we're still not clear about some things. Otherwise, we can start working on our final project which is a motion poster of a movie. I have a few movies in mind that I wanted to recreate the poster. But since we have to use our own pictures, I decided to use Illustrator where I make some kind of minimalist poster, using only silhouettes. I tried to search for some posters online which at first I wanted to do Hugo.

I also searched for minimalist posters from other movies.

Then I suddenly thought of Dunkirk so I searched for some of the poster as reference and decided to work on Dunkirk.

I decided to also do a minimalist poster of Dunkirk so I started tracing. I planned to use blue color schemes but I changed it to a little olive green.
I started out by tracing the picture of my first reference but using a scene from the movie itself.

Then I moved on to trace the smokes, the planes, boats, as well as other objects that are in there.

Lastly, I added a little gradient on the person, where the smokes are coming out.

This is the final look of my poster.

I saved the file on Illustrator as a .psd file so that I can import it layer by layer on After Effects.
Week 13
On week 13, I started to animate my poster on After Effects. I moved the positions of some objects that needs to be moved and gave a fade in effect on both the writings. Here what my final poster look like.
I showed Mr. Hafiz my work but then he said I could do better so he suggested I edited a few parts. One, I can try to make the smoke look more like smoke, move the flag on the boat, move the smoke so it will cover the boat for a few moment, as well as edit the smoke so it can be behind the huge ferry at the back. So I tried to animate again according to Mr. Hafiz's feedback and here's the final result.
