Project 1
Week 1
(26th of March 2018)
First week of classes, Mr. Hafiz briefed us on the module outline for 2D Animation. We will be having three small projects and one final project for this semester. Starting next week we will be learning about the principles of animation as well as using them on exercises all the way till week 10. Starting from week 10 we will be given time to start our final project which will be due on week 14. Our final project would be to create a minimum of 15s animation based on a music that we choose. Module Outline
The first exercise that we were asked to do is to make a flipbook. Before starting, I went through the module outline to look at a few videos that were listed as references such as Coldplay's Strawberry Swing, Nokia Gulp, and Assassins Creed Paper Animation. Then I tried to look for some examples online.
In the end I decided to make a simple one which is to first start with a cookie on a table then make a character come in view and eat it. It was kind of hard to draw the same character throughout the book. However, due to the fact that the paper is quite light in a sense that you can see the drawings on the page behind the page you're on, it makes it easier for me to kind of trace the same drawing. Another thing is that depending on the quality of the paper you're working on, it might be kind of hard to perfectly flip through the pages to create a smooth animation as some of the pages may be a little bit wrinkled and folded as you are drawing it.

Week 2
(2nd of April 2018)
On the second week of class, Mr. Hafiz took a look at our flip book. After that Mr. Hafiz said that he wanted us to transfer the flip book animation on Adobe Animate. He then opened up Animate and explain about a few tools that are in Adobe Animate. He also showed us the new Adobe Character Animator, a plugin from After Effects, where you can create your own character and open it in Adobe Character Animate where your face will be detected and the character will be able to move according to what they detect from your face. Here's my animated version of my flipbook and my process of doing it.

Mr. Hafiz then explained a few shortcuts that we can use while drawing on Animate. After explaining everything, Mr. Hafiz explained that this week, we will start working on our first project, Limited Animation, which is a group project. We will be divided into groups of 3 and make a 15s stop motion video where the point of this video is to give an object a soul.
Once we're divided into groups, me and my teammates started discussing on ideas and our character as well as some rough sketches.
We came up with two ideas at first, but then we decided to use the second idea. As for the character that we're going to use is a chick, which looks cute at first but turns scary after a short second.
Week 3
(9th of April 2018)
On the third week of class, Mr. Hafiz wanted to see the progress of our project. We were ask to present a rough storyboard. Then Mr. Hafiz showed us a few video on animations that are made using storyboards before it is finalized into an animation. From the video, we were asked to do the same thing. Mr. Hafiz advised that we should try to work as effective and productive as possible to save time. Since there's 3 people in a group, we were asked to divide our work and start doing it. I'm in charge of refining the storyboard while two of my teammates will be in charge of looking for sound effects and putting it into an animatic storyboard on Premiere.

Week 4
(16th of April 2018)
On the fourth week, Mr. Hafiz gave us a short lecture on Straight Ahead and Pose to Pose animation. Straight Ahead is when the movement are drawn from the beginning till the end without planning. Movements in straight ahead animation usually cannot be controlled and it's usually used for hair, smoke, etc. Pose to Pose is when the animation are drawn in the beginning, in the end, then in the middle.
Mr. Hafiz also explained about what we're gonna do on our Project 2 which is about metamorphosis, He showed us a few examples and explained that in order to do a good metamorphosis, we have to make the object explode, break, rotate, etc. After the explanation, Mr. Hafiz showed each of our final result to the whole class and asked each of us to comment on it. Mr. Hafiz said that my group's composition was good, he liked how the camera follows the chick around when it ran but he said that we should've followed the chick all the way to the end. Other than that, there's no other comment from Mr. Hafiz. I really like group 5's work, where the capsicum crushed a grape on a wrestling show. Everything was shot very nicely, the lighting was good, everything looked clean, even the sound effect matches the animation very much.
