PROGRESS

Week 3
(13th of April 2018)

On the third week of class, Mr. Kannan wanted to see our sketches and our concept for our first project which is hard surface modelling. Mr. Kannan went around to guide us on what we should do. I decided to model a robot. Mr. Kannan then asked me what I wanted to model, maybe like and animal or something that I like. After discussing, I decided I wanted to model a fox robot. Mr. Kannan then tried to draw as an example for me to start working, he asked me to look for references.

I looked for a few images on Pinterest as references for me to draw my model. Here's my sketches for my fox robot.

Mr. Kannan wanted us to finish our sketch and start modelling by next week.

Week 4
(20th of April 2018)

On the fourth week of classes, Mr. Kannan wanted to look at our progress on our model. I only started with the head so there was really nothing much to see and I forgot to take a screen shot of it. After checking on our work, Mr. Kannan reminded us that next week would be the submission for our first project. Then Mr. Kannan moved on to explaining a few stuff about Maya. While doing this project, one of the things that I still find it difficult to do is to model from the basic shapes as I'm still not used to sketching everything from basic. I tried to do it but it's still quite difficult for me so for this project, I was kind of relying on my imagination as to how many division there should be for me to model the head, the body as well as the legs of my fox robot. I try to refer to my references and other references that I found online. I also tried to study the details that are in robots. I decided to model it one by one separately before combining them into one.

Week 5
(27th of April 2018)

On the fifth week, which is our submission day, Mr. Kannan came and look at our work. I colored my orange and showed Mr. Kannan. Unfortunately I also forgot to take a screenshot of it. Mr. Kannan told me that it was okay and that it would be better if I could try to add more edges to make the robot look more metallic. Then Mr. Kannan taught us about lighting and shadows and stuff, and asked us to try it at home and write a reflection about it on our blog. Mr. Kannan also gave us an extension for our submission which is until Monday, where we're supposed to use Skydome lighting and render our work. If it turns out we rendered it badly, Mr. Kannan wanted us to do it in the next coming class. I decided to improvise on my robot and here's what it looks like now.

The thing that I was struggling to do throughout this project one is deciding on the division of the body parts as well as putting them together. I also had a hard time trying to make it look more robotic so I decided to look online on what to do. After watching tutorials, I remembered what Mr. Kannan taught in class before which is to use bevel. So I decided to use bevel for the edges to make it look more robotic. I believe that with more and more practices, I will be able to find it easier over time to model something. I also searched for tutorials on YouTube to  find out how to insert texture. But for this I only did it for the ground. Mr. Kannan also uploaded a few tutorials on Texture.
