Lectures
Week 1
(28th of March 2018)
On the first day of class, Ms. Anis explained the module outline for this semester. Afterwards, she started explaining about our first individual assignment, where we will need to do some research on festivities around the world and write a 750-1000 words about it.
Week 2
Week 2
(5th of April 2018)
On the first class of the second week, Ms. Anis use it as a consultation period for us to talk about the festival that we chose for our first assignment.
On the second class, Ms. Anis gave us a lecture on Culture and Behaviour. Before going into the lecture Ms. Anis first explained to us regarding Design Flow which is related to our first assignment. The first thing about design flow is the idea which includes keywords, what comes to your mind when people mention about the festival, which is recommended to be done in a mind map. Second would be deciding on a concept which is a narrative that describes your idea, can be a synopsis or a mood board. Moving on would be to decide on a theme which includes assigning genre, evoking particular theme, culture, country, etc. Next would be execution which is the techniques you plan to use to create the outcome.. Last would be the art direction which is basically the aesthetic that will be placed in the artwork itself.
After explaining about the design flow. Ms. Anis started explaining about Culture and Behaviour.
Culture is characteristic or knowledge of a group of people encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music, and art. It is the shared patterns of behaviours and interactions, cognitive constructs and understanding that are learned by socialization.
Human Behaviour is the capacity of mental, physical, emotional, and social activities experiences during the five stages of a human being (prenatal, infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood). Human behaviour includes behaviours as dictated by culture, society, values, morals, ethics, and genetics. Broad distinction between human and animal behaviour can be seen from ethics, learning, and most importantly instincts.
A few categories of Human Behaviour: instinct (unlearned), reflex (reaction), and drive (inclination).
Essential components in culture:

- Beliefs: reverence in divine beings
- Use of material objects: worshiping using objects
Week 3
(12th of April 2018)
On the second class this week, Ms. Anis gave us a lecture regarding the psychology of culture and behaviour.
According to Stuart Hall, It is the participants in a culture who give meaning to people, objects, and events. It is by our use of things and what we say, think, and feel about them - how we represent them - that we give them meaning.
Then Ms. Anis explained the human psychology school of thoughts where there are two types of study conducted to learn about the human psychology. The first one is by Wilhelm Wundt which studies the lower mental process (unconscious mind) by analyzing the human mind in a more structured way through repeatable observation and experimentation. The second one is by Wilhelm Dilthey which studies the higher mental process (conscious mind) through systematic relation between life, humanities, and expressions also with cultural sciences.
Then there's cultural psychology, which according to Richard Schweder is the study of the way cultural traditions and social practices regulate, express, and transform the human psyche. Ms. Anis also explained the importance of cultural psychology.
After the lecture, Ms. Anis gave us a group exercise where we are required to search for an artifact or practice that has cultural significance but not viewed similarly from other society. For my group, we found a practice in Greece where people actually spit on other people as much as three times as a way to get rid of bad luck. They spit on people they compliment, and even on brides.

Week 4
(19th of April 2018)
On the second class of week four, Ms. Anis gave us a lecture on culture classification.
According to Edward T. Hall, there's two types of culture
According to Edward T. Hall, there's two types of culture
- Low Context Culture which relies heavily on explicit and direct language.
Traits that can be found in low context cultures are: shorter relationships formed, less dependent on context, written agreements, insiders and outsiders are less clearly distinguished, cultural patterns change faster, business before friendship, credibility through expertise and performance, agreements by legal contract, and efficient negotiations. An example of country that's has a low context culture is mostly western countries especially America. - High Context Culture which relies heavily on context and implicity.
Traits that can be found in high context cultures are: long lasting relationships, exploiting context, spoken agreements, insiders and outsiders are clearly distinguished, cultural patterns are ingrained and changes very slowly, no business without friendships, credibility through relationships, agreement founded on trust, as well as slow and ritualistic negotiations. An example of country that has high context culture is mostly eastern or Asian countries such as Japan.
After the lecture, Ms. Anis gave us another group activity, where we were asked to look for one low context advertisement and one with high context advertisement and present it in front of class.

Week 3
(11th of April 2018)
On the third week, I started working on my mind maps for my artwork information. Ms. Anis gave us time to do it in class while she walked around to check on us.

Week 4
(18th of April 2018)
On the fourth week, Ms. Anis wanted to see our sketches on what we plan to do, which I came up with four sketches and I showed Ms. Anis what I have. Ms. Anis told me to carry on and based on my art direction she asked me to start working on my poster. I decided to draw using Photoshop for my poster instead of Illustrator because I don't want to create an art deco style poster.

Week 5
(26th of April 2018)
I finished my poster where I decided to do everything on Photoshop. At first, the drawings that I did had very obvious outlines which made it look kind of messy so I decided to change it a little bit and here's the before and after version of my poster.
