Week 8
(18th of May 2018)

On the eighth week, Mr. Kannan mentioned beforehand that we should already have our character design sketches for project 2 where we will be doing organic modelling. Mr. Kannan posted two video tutorials about organic modelling for us to use as reference. I wanted to do a human character, so I drew a lot of human character as I'm really bad with animal and other types of creature. When I showed Mr. Kannan my character, he asked me to try and give it more characteristic, such as the clothing style, accessories, etc. I tried to redrew my character again but i just can't really draw it out well. In the end I decided to just draw a character, using Totoro and another monster kind of creature that I found on Pinterest as reference. Below are all of my sketches.

I also tried to color my character on Photoshop so I can have an idea on which color I want my character to have and how it would look like.

Week 9
(25th of May 2018)

On week 9, my model is already halfway done, only needed to model the arms and merge them together. Mr. Kannan mentioned that I have a lot of division but he said that it's alright. Here's how my model looked like.

Since I'm done with modelling, I've been trying to find ways on how to texture my model. Mr. Kannan showed in class about texturing by painting in Photoshop. I tried to do the same thing but was having troubles with the UVs. After learning from one of our senior, I finally understand how we should actually unwrap our characters in order to properly texture it. So here's what my UVs look like after unwrapping.
Fig. 2.c. UVs of character
I actually did try a few times but I was manually selecting the faces of the model to create a certain UV and I tried to paint on it.

However when I tried to place the texture inside Maya, it won't appear. Which I later then found out that I need to click on the textured button.

Here's how my UVs look like after I painted them on Photoshop. I did it a lot of times to see what it looks like. Since the UVs are separated, there are a few things to take note of to make sure the texture don't look weird.
Fig. 2.g. First try
I used black as the background of the first texture, when I exported it and bring it to Maya, along the edges I can see the black edges. So I decided to put color blue as the background. I also somehow colored the wrong part of the eyes.

So here's my second look after changing the background to blue.
Fig. 2.i. Second try on texture
It looked a lot better than the first one, but it also made it look like there's only solid color for the body. I was also thinking about how I could add fur texture to my character. I tried to put it together with the layer, but it just doesn't look good.

The fur just didn't blend well. So in the end I decided to keep with the second texture for now.

Week 10
(1st of June 2018)

On the tenth week of class, Mr. Kannan decided to extend our submission till next week so I decided to try and redo my texturing in Substance Painter. However, I can't seem to find any fur materials in Substance Painter so I decided to make my character a statue instead of a living being.
