3D Modelling
Final Project
Week 13
(21st of June 2018)
On the thirteenth week, we were briefed on our final project where we need to model our own character but it has to have a scene or a story behind the character. We were also reminded that in our model there needs to be organic and hard surface objects. So for this project I decided to model a hovering robot that lives alone in a house. Initially I wanted the house to be the organic element in my project so I decided on mushroom shaped house but when I was creating the basic shapes, the house doesn't really fit the robot at all. So I changed the house into something more like the robot.

Since I wanted to go with realistic, here's a few robots I found on Pinterest that I used as reference for the details.

As for the house itself, I was at a cafe that time so I was looking around for objects that can be used as reference and I somehow got attracted to this lantern-like light which I decided to use for my house design. I also looked for reference on Pinterest.

I started modelling my robot character on this week where I model the whole thing itself before adding details.

Week 14
(29th of June 2018)
On the fourteenth week, I started to model the house where I did the basic shaped first before finally adding all the details. In the end I also added a ground for it and showed it to Mr. Kannan, where Mr. Kannan asked me to try and add some stones and grass. The whole [ process of modelling the robot have no problem at all except for when I was trying to add the details as I'm not sure what kind of details to add in and also due to the fact that I have the sketch for the robot itself. As for the house it was kind of challenging because I didn't do any sketch first so I had to think about how to design it.

After I finish with the main thing itself, I started to add boxed to make it seem like the boxes are merged with the house, making it look abandoned and not taken care of.

Before I move on to UV cut, I saved the file as a new file in case anything happens I can go back to the old file. I then smooth all the elements in my model and then move on to do UV Cut on my model. I first arranged them in layers then did the UV cut based on the layers before finally combining all of them as one. I decided to do the UV cut automatically because there are too many parts on the whole model and I wanted to spend my time on coloring and texturing instead of cutting the UVs. The result from the UV cut has like too much parts being separated and cut from each other but that was better than me having to UV cut everything on my own manually.

Throughout the whole process of finishing this project, there were definitely some challenges here and there but so far this is the project that I put the most effort on and really try and push through my boundaries. It was really difficult to start modelling on something that was not drawn or sketched or planned beforehand but once I started from the little things I can slowly think about what more to add on. The whole process of finishing this project was very fun and I really like modelling the whole thing. I named my character ER-0027 to show that it is actually one of the robots that are experimented where it is then abandoned and so it is somehow living alone.
